Our Students

Shelby County Schools is composed of students from one of the "most economically-challenged communities" in the state who, in many instances, come to school with a host of social and emotional challenges. Despite the significant needs facing those students and the District’s financial challenges, students in SCS have continued to excel, in turn making our primary school system a state leader in academic growth.

  • SCS was named a Level 5 school district for the fourth consecutive year, the State’s highest honor.
  • Students showed academic improvement over 2014 in nine of 10 tested subject areas.
  • Student achievement resulted in a 75 percent graduation rate for 2015, surpassing the District’s strategic plan’s goal.
  • Student achievement in iZone Schools resulted in national and state recognition
  • Ninety-three (93) SCS schools achieved top status for academic growth, including 12 Priority Schools
  • Sixteen (16) Shelby County Schools students were named 2016 National Merit semi-finalists
  • The iZone schools, designed to boost achievement at the District’s lowest performing schools has received national recognition for student growth and progress.
